Photo competition to enhace Europe


The "Europe in My Region: Photo Competition 2014" wants to publicize the EU-funded projects around Europe. In order to win the contest EU young are invited to submit photo of local project receiving EU funds. Winner will receive 1000 euro to spend on digital camera equipment and a two-night trip for two to Brussels between 6th and 9th of October 2014.

Launched by the European Commission Directorate General for Regional Policy, the "Europe in My Region Photo Competition" wants to highlight the local projects across Europe that receive funds from Europe. 

The statistics for the 2013 competition were:
  • 867 eligible photos submitted (42% increase on the previous year)
  • 20,000 votes cast in the popular vote (60% increase on the previous year)
  • 118,000 unique visitors to the competition Facebook app
  • 32,000 new likes of the European Commission’s Facebook page
EU residents, from 18 years old, are invited to join the competition by uploadingup to three photos of a project receiving EU funding.  Photos must show the billboard or plaque with the EU flag somewhere in the picture, to underline that the project featured has received EU funding.Then, competitors have to share their photos on the Facebook page of the competition. The deadline of the competition is on 25 August 2014.
 
Four winners will be selected. One of them will be choosen by popular vote, that will take place from 27 August to 8 September 2014. Then, the 100 photos having received the most votes (excluding the winner of the popular vote) will enter the jury selection, alongside an extra 50 photos from the competition chosen by the jury. Of them, three photos will be selected as winners. 
 
Each winner will receive 1000 euro to spend on digital camera equipment and a two-night trip for two to Brussels between 6 and 9 October 2014.
The winners must be available to visit the European Week of Regions and Cities’ event during these dates to pick up their prize.
