Conference on the Empowerment of the Next Generation of Researchers


Key elements will be explored from this angle such as skills, mobility, and gender issues as well as the interaction between academia and industry sectors. The conference will focus on the roles of policy-makers, funders and businesses contributing to research training, working together with universities and research institutions.

The Italian Presidency recognises the pivotal importance of research and innovation for European competitiveness, employment and social progress as well as the strategic value of investment in human resources.

Therefore the Presidency wishes to contribute to the discussion and elaboration of the career development and training of researchers by organising a conference on the subject in conjunction with the European Commission, which is financing the event through the Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions Choose translations of the previous link of the new EU Horizon 2020 programme for research and innovation.

The overall theme is to discuss and reflect on how programmes for researcher training, recruitment and career development empower the next generation of researchers to be successful, no matter how society and the economy evolve in the European Research Area.

High-level speakers, such as the Italian Minister of Education, Universities and Research, the incoming EU Commissioner, and leaders of Local Authorities of the Trentino Autonomous Region, will open the conference and participate in the Awards Ceremony of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions Prize that will follow. Information and a draft programme are available on www.msca2014.eu
