Nike’s new app ‘Making‘ helps designers and product creators make informed decisions about the environmental impact of the materials they choose. The free app is available to download it from iTunes, ranks materials on four impact areas: water, chemistry, energy, and waste.
The designer-specific tool is easy to use and was created with insights and feedback from students at London College of Fashion’s Centre for Sustainable Fashion
This tool classifies the materials used in clothing in four environmental impact areas: water, chemical, energy and waste. The main idea is to educate designers to choose the clothes that have less impact on the environment.
Making is powered by data from the Nike Materials Sustainability Index (MSI), a database built on more than seven years of materials research and analysis. The app scores materials out of a possible 50 points, further ranking them based on specific environmental impact areas and whether they use recycled or organic content.
